The Oregon Council had a wonderful time at the Associated Roofing Contractors of Oregon and Washington Annual Golf Tournament last month. The group spent the day educating golfers on the impact National Women in Roofing has had on the community. It was a long day but the group managed to speak to over 150 roofing professionals!
Members of the NWiR Oregon Council re-roofed a building at the Veterans Village for the Housing Authority of Clackamas County, Oregon. We worked together with Bliss Roofing, Inc, Malarkey Roofing Products, and Dealers Supply Co., to donate materials, labor, and equipment to get the job done in one day. ABC Roofing volunteered to donate the labor and materials necessary to complete a new laundry room addition at the Good Neighbor Center in Tigard, Oregon. The Center provides shelter and resources for families experiencing housing insecurity – from food and clothing, to cleaning supplies and furniture. The Oregon Council hosted their February meeting online and in-person at Bliss Roofing. The group gathered, writing their favorite qualities of each member of the group and sharing them out loud. It was a wonderful opportunity to spread kindness and gratitude throughout the community.
For the 2nd year in a row, the NWiR Oregon Council came together to bring 6 young women a beautiful Christmas. Anisa's Place is a shelter the group helped put a roof on 2 years ago. The Oregon Council of National Women in Roofing and the Associated Roofing Contractors of Oregon and Southwest Washington are joining forces to provide Christmas gift cards to the children at Margaret Scott Elementary School, located in NE Portland, this year. The Oregon Council decided to offer a hybrid version for their April meeting last month. The meeting had one of the highest levels of participation since the start of the pandemic last year. Allowing folks to choose whether they preferred to attend a meeting in person, or in the comfort of their home or office, opened up the pool for more attendees. Back in February 2020, the NWiR Oregon chapter teamed up with Village for one to put a roof on Anisa’s Place. Village for One is an organization that helps children who have been victims of sex trafficking. Anisa’s Place is a home that houses 6 of these children. The NWiR Oregon chapter loves this time of year! We couldn't wait to get the word out about our Thanksgiving event. We had over 12 companies participate, delivering over 100 giving boxes and $2,000 worth of monetary donations to the Oregon Food Bank.
