Our council exhibited at the Oregon Tradeswomen Career Fair on Student Day. Over 1,500 students were bussed in to learn about exciting career opportunities in the skilled construction trades. Once again, the NWiR Oregon Council, the Associated Roofing Contractors of Oregon, and Southwest Washington joined forces to provide Christmas gift cards to the children at Margaret Scott Elementary School, located in NE Portland. We had the opportunity to visit the Owens Corning plant in Portland at our last meeting. They gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how their shingles are made. It was helpful to learn more about the industry from the manufactures perspective. Thank you, Owens Corning for your support!
The NWiR Oregon Council had the pleasure of being hosted by Integrity Insurance & Bonding Inc. for their September meeting. The group spent the evening discussing the Top 10 endorsements to avoid in your insurance policy. The meeting was very informative and helpful, as well as entertaining!
The Oregon Council spent the month of August gathering classroom supplies for Kindergarten students at Mill Park Elementary. 77% of students here are considered low income and all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch services. All school supplies are provided to students at no cost. However, students are allotted one set of supplies and any additional expenses, including classroom décor, come out of the teacher’s pocket.
