Curiosity, Courage, & Career Growth: The Making of a Roofing Leader
Outside of being ready for a change, Rachel Garcia didn’t know what to expect when she entered roofing 13 years ago. Burnt out from her previous career, she came in with the one thing that mattered most: a willingness to learn. Her role began as a marketing administrator, but an empowering leader changed the trajectory of Rachel’s career. Rachel coupled her willingness to learn with curiosity and the boldness to make things happen.

She didn’t wait to be “ready.” She stayed curious, took initiative, and learned the business layer by layer. Over time, she transitioned from support work to strategic work, developing training programs, working directly with contractors, and building the operational tools that help businesses grow.
Curiosity opened the door. Leadership kept her moving forward.
Today, Rachel serves as Director of Contractor Services at Malarkey Roofing Products, an Amrize brand, leading training and certification initiatives that help contractors build stronger teams, streamline operations, and scale their businesses with clarity and confidence. She oversees Malarkey’s Certified Roofing Contractor (CRC) program and continues to create tools that drive contractor growth and long-term sustainability.
Rachel believes that leadership begins with showing up and leading by example. As Chair of the NWIR Oregon Council, Rachel advocates for women across the roofing industry especially those working on the technical and contractor sides of the business. She believes representation, support, and opportunity matter.
Her advice to women entering the industry is simple and powerful: “Be confident and stay curious, never stop learning. Every experience, training, or mentorship opportunity is a chance to grow your skills and build confidence. Seek out mentors and build your network, because having people to support and guide you is invaluable. And most importantly, work hard, take initiative, and don’t let challenges discourage you. There’s a place for women in every part of this industry, and you can absolutely thrive.”
In 2025, Rachel was recognized with the NWIR WORLD Award, honoring her impact and industry leadership. Outside of work, she recharges through woodworking, cooking, gardening, hiking, and yoga.
