The Education Committee has several upcoming events, and we are also looking for volunteers to offer time and talent for future content offerings!

Upcoming events include:
Being the “only” in the room: This event was postponed in August and is now scheduled for September 8th, 3PM EST. Please join the Education Committee for a panel discussion on Being “the only” in the room. More specifically being “the only black woman” in the room! Join our panelists:

  • Maleah Evans a Quality Resource Coordinator for Tremco Roofing
  • Manaya Robertson a Channel Sales Specialist for CertainTeed Roofing
  • Teena Williams a Demand Planning Analyst for Tremco Roofing

Our panelists will share their experiences, their approach, and the ways they manage being the only black woman in the room. With brave, authentic conversation we hope to raise awareness and spark change where possible.

September is also Safety month for the Education Committee. Check out some of the great content and information Education Committee member Jae Horbacz has pulled together on all things safety. Information will be available on the Technical Resources page. Speaking of donating time and talent! On September 27th and 28th Lorna Rojas, a Licensed OSHA instructor and Member of the OSHA Safety Council will be hosting an OSHAA 10-hour certification course. This course will be delivered in Spanish. Registration will be capped at 40 participants. Check out the Events calendar and watch for the registration link which will be coming soon!

The Education Committee will also be kicking off a series that will take us into next year. The Business of Women in Roofing will focus on topics to help women manage their business. Topics planned include marketing, selling strategies, insurance, operations management, and financials 101 to name a few. We are looking for members willing to donate time, talent, and knowledge as we build content. The ask includes joining a panel or presenting a webinar on a specific topic as a subject matter expert. If you work in one of these fields and are interested in participating, please contact me at the email address below!

Finally, past Education Committee Chair, Rising Star recipient, and everyone’s favorite self-proclaimed science geek Heather Estes has put together quite an impressive Association reference list. Be on the lookout as the Education Committee shares The ABCs of Roofing – Associations on social media over the next several weeks! ARMA, ERA, NRCA… Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! Have you ever felt lost in the world of roofing acronyms? Or are you new to the industry and looking to learn about key organizations? The NWiR Education Committee is here to help!

The Education Committee meetings take place every 2nd Wednesday of the month. Feel free to join us anytime! We welcome new ideas and anyone willing to help develop or contribute to content!

Have a safe September!
