For the fourth year in a row on April 30th, the Seattle Chapter of NWIR participated in Rebuilding Together South Sound’s SheBuild event where we replaced the roof of a female homeowner in need.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, as with any outdoor activity in early spring, the event needed some game time adjustments as the weather was less than stellar. Over the years that NWIR has participated in the build, in addition to the roof we’ve always done additional work like yard clean-up and minor landscaping but due to the heavy rain on the forecast for the day of the event we were unable to have all of our volunteers on-site to participate in the yard clean up.

Nonetheless, with our combined labor thanks to several members of NWIR, we were able to get the project completed. Knowing that the weather was somewhat favorable the day prior to the event, we were able to remove two layers of old roofing, re-sheet, and waterproof for the next day.

On Saturday, April 30th, our volunteer roofers showed up and quickly got to work installing shingles. This year, we have to thank local shingle manufacturer PABCO for generously donating the shingle products and distributor BEACON BUILDING PRODUCTS for their generous donation of all the additional accessories.

Without our donors and volunteers, Mrs. Cash would not have had a new roof over her head. The overall scope of Mrs. Cash’s project performed by NWIR included Shingle Roofing, Metal Roofing, and Gutters and Downspouts for a total valuation of almost $31,000!

The Seattle Chapter of NWIR would like to extend a big thank you to all our donors and volunteers for its project. Thank you for your generosity and engagement with our community. And to wrap up, a special thank you to Thomasina Kaufman and Troop 44532 of the Girl Scouts of America for bringing us some much-needed Girl Scouts Cookies!
