Cool Roofs – Energy Saver

A cool roof is designed to reflect more sunlight than a conventional roof, absorbing less solar energy. This lowers the temperature of the building just as wearing light-colored clothing keeps you cool on a sunny day. Conventional roofs can reach temperatures of 150°F or more on a sunny summer afternoon, Sun. Under the same conditions, a reflective roof could stay more than 50°F (28 °C) cooler. This can save energy and money in buildings with air [...]

Interesting Articles: Fact Sheet | Cool Roofs

1. Naturally Cool Roofs: By using white vinyl or other white surface materials, a building's albedo (ability to reflect light) can increase to 60 percent, compared to 10-20 percent on a traditional asphalt roof. This reduces heat absorption and cools the building's interior. 2. Coated Roofs: Buildings with traditional roofs can receive a solar reflective coating that helps reflect sunlight. Once retrofitted, these roofs function the same way as naturally cool roofs. 3. Insulated Cool Roofs: [...]
